One of the foremost American designers during the last two decades, Narciso Rodriguez plays a singular role in global fashion. As Anna Wintour, editor in chief of American Vogue has said, "No one but Narciso has ever made a simple line look more stunning."

On November 4, 2008, Narciso Rodriguez became part of a monumental event in American history. Alberta Ferretti at Milano Moda Donna / Milan Fashion Week

████████████ DESIGNER

Italian designer Alberta Ferretti has been dubbed Milan’s resident "queen of chiffon," and her signature flowing, diaphanous goddess gowns have entranced Hollywood and women in search of the romantic, ethereal look for more than 30 years. Her eveningwear confections, which have graced the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Salma Hayek, are known for their expert draping and refined feminine embellishments like crystal jeweling, gauzy layers, and accordion pleats. Since 2001, Ferretti’s collection has included beachwear, accessories, and underwear.

The daughter of a dressmaker, Ferretti spent her early childhood playing in the atelier, cutting and sewing fabrics just like the seamstresses who surrounded her. At 18, she opened a boutique in the resort town of Cattolica on the Adriatic coast. Alongside labels like Versace, Giorgio Armani, and Krizia, Ferretti began selling her own designs, which soon developed a cult following. In 1981, she debuted her collection on the Milan runway and three years later launched a diffusion line, which would become Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti.

Not content to focus solely on her own operations, Ferretti partnered with her brother Massimo to form the company Aeffe, which today produces and distributes designs for such houses as Jean Paul Gaultier, Moschino, Basso & Brooke, and Pollini.

In 1998, Italian president Oscar Luigi Scalfaro nominated Ferretti for the Cavaliere del Lavoro, an honor given to those who have wielded considerable economic and social influence in the country.

████████████ EVENT

Milano Moda Donna / Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week is owned by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (The National Chamber for Italian Fashion), a non-profit association which disciplines, co-ordinates and promotes the development of Italian Fashion and is responsible for hosting the fashion events and shows of Milan. The Camera Sindacale della Moda Italiana, was set up on 11 June 1958. This was the forerunner of the body which subsequently became the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. Proprietors of the most important haute couture establishments in Italy, including some private establishments, which, in those days, played a crucial role in the promotion of this sector, were present at the Memorandum of Association: Maria Antonelli, Roberto Cappucci, Princess Caracciolo Ginnetti, Alberto Fagiani, Giovanni Cesare Guidi, Germana Marucelli, Emilio Federico Schuberth, Simonetta Colonna Di Cesarò, Jole Veneziani, Francesco Borrello, Giovanni Battista Giorgini and the lawyer Pietro Parisio.
The events dedicated to women’s fashion are the most important (Womenswear / Milan SS Women Ready to Wear, and Milano Moda Donna being the major fashion shows). The summer events dedicated to men include Menswear and Milano Moda Uomo.

Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana

The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (The National Chamber for Italian Fashion) is the non profit making Association which disciplines, co-ordinates and promotes the development of Italian Fashion.

The Association represents all the highest cultural values of Italian Fashion. It aims to protect, co-ordinate and strengthen its image, both in Italy and abroad.

In accordance with the statutory provisions, the Association is the point of reference, as well as the preferential mouthpiece, for all the national and international initiatives aimed at valuing and promoting Italian style, customs and Fashion.

Right from the year of its foundation, in 1958, the Association has pursued a policy of organisational support aimed at the knowledge, promotion and development of Fashion through events with a highly intellectual image in Italy and abroad.

Recent agreements over international calendars, which have led to the signing of the Italian-French agreement, have given Milan and the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana the role of undisputed protagonist on the international fashion scene, thus also contributing to the consolidation of alliances with London and New York.

The Franco-Italian Protocol signed in Paris on 26th June 2000 is founded on the strong will by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and Fédération Française du prêt-à-porter Féminin to implement a common policy aimed at developing and circulating luxury products in non-European areas.

On January 17th 2005, this agreement has been reconfirmed in Milan with the signature of a new protocol, in presence of the French Minister of foreign trade, On. François Loos and of the Vice-Minister, On.Adolfo Urso, countersigned by the President of Lombardy Region, On.Roberto Formigoni, with the integration of new initiatives particularly relevant, in order to manage the new scenery of the international trade, characterized by the increasing competition that will get worse and worse at the end of the Multifibre Worldwide Agreement.

David Jones Autumn Winter Launch

David Jones Autumn Winter Launch

David Jones Autumn Winter Launch With Miranda Kerr At David Jones Sydney

Miranda Kerr was back to promoting fashion again today, returning to David Jones, Sydney, as part of the latest David Jones Autumn Winter launch – promo.

The fashion celebs were in full force as Kerr was joined by dozens of Australian fashion elite, many international icons.

In front of a crowd of hundreds, fashion and entertainment industry elite including Dannii Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Megan Gale, Alex Dimitriades and Miranda Kerr did the red (actually black) carpet and mingled with press.

Miranda wrapt up the marvellous show in a fashion forward black embellished Collette Dinnigan mini dress.

Lots of brands were promoted including Josh Goot suits, Bassike, Lisa Ho, along with Little Joe and Camilla and Marc.

The 1970s look to have made a bit of a comeback again with designs from Romance was Born, Zimmermann, Bianca Spender, and Thurley and Minogue’s Project D line which had a strong disco-esque edge as did Scanlan & Theodore.

Camilla showed off her 70s collection – Moroccan-inspired kaftans and metallic headwear.

Napoleon Perdis was onto the 70’s also. One look was inspired from the 70s cult film The Eyes of Laura Mars, and an insider whispered that was in fact where it was born.

George Gross and Harry Who showed off refined feminine clothing modelled on the 1950s.

Dinnigan and Alex Perry went for modern black themes.

Jack London went with coloured tailored suits.

Calibre and Brent Wilson The Basics ran with something a dash more conservative.

Kerr was only one of the top models present. Samantha Harris, Alexandra Agoston, Louise Van Der Vorst and Australia’s Next Top Model champs Alice Burdeau and Montana Cox were also there, ensuring the event was media darling fodder.

Perth was represented by models, Tiah Eckhardt-Delaney and Sarah Pauley, who also snatched strong media coverage.

You should have seen the fab and refurbished ‘On Seven at David Jones’ area.

The launch we were told was a "Salon style" super show with New York supper club themes. Lucky guests were seated at modest sized tables while the models strutted their stuff, darting and weaving through the guest area.

Retail giant David Jones streamed the event live over the internet for its virgin time via its official Facebook page.

Well done to DJ’s, models and everyone involved in the fab event. We look forward to seeing you at the next as Australia’s fashion wars continue to heat up.

Alexander McQueen dropped out of school at age 16 to pursue a career in fashion design, learning tailoring on Savile Row and pattern making from costumiers Angels and Bermans. He showed his degree collection fresh out of the Central Saint Martins Masters program in 1994, which was bought in its entirety by style icon and fashion editor Isabella Blow. The label is known for its dramatic, gorgeously constructed pieces, combining elements of British tailoring with French couture. Signature looks included billowy dresses cut in hourglass silhouettes, frock coats paired with skinny pants, sharp, angular suiting, and darkly romantic gowns covered in intricate embroidery and lace. Gucci Group acquired 51 percent of the label in 2000. In 2004, McQueen designed his first menswear collection and was named British Menswear Designer of the Year by the British Fashion Council. The brand introduced fragrances in 2003 and 2005 (Kingdom and MyQueen) and in January 2006 launched McQ, a more affordable, denim-based ready-to-wear line including menswear, womenswear, and accessories. McQueen flagships stores are in London, New York, Milan, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, and franchised stores are in Istanbul and Moscow. Tragically, McQueen was found dead in his London apartment in February 2010. The cause of death was suicide. Sarah Burton, McQueen’s right-hand woman who started working for the label in 1996, took over as the new creative director after McQueen’s death. In May 2011, The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute celebrated the opening of "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty," an exhibition featuring McQueen’s extraordinary contributions to fashion, including signature pieces from his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection to his final runway presentation. More than 660,000 people went to see the exhibit, setting a new attendance record for a fashion exhibition at the Met.

████████████ DESIGNER

For more than 25 years, Joseph Mimram has been an important contributor to the fashion and design industry in Canada. With his sharp eye, impeccable attention to detail and insight into emerging trends, Joe has always been on the forefront of what’s next.
As creative director of the Joe Fresh® brand, Joe is committed to offering women, men and children stylish and versatile looks for every day that are both well-designed and well-priced. Joe personally oversees the design and development of an extensive clothing range, from chic footwear to the latest in outdoor fashions. In addition to apparel, the Joe Fresh ™ brand recently launched cosmetics and bath collections.
Joe is intrinsically involved in every step of the Joe Fresh® creative process from product design to marketing, finding the right model for an advertising campaign to selecting a store location and design. As focused as he is on the design process, Joe also fully understands the business aspect of retail and has led Joe Fresh® to become one of the top brands in Canada, with 330+ stores in Canada and into international expansion.
Joe’s illustrious career began in 1977 within his family’s dress design and manufacturing business. He astutely identified the need for careerwear for women as they entered the work force and this forward-thinking resulted in the development of several successful brands starting with Alfred Sung. Shortly thereafter he founded Club Monaco and later launched Caban.
With his current company, Joseph Mimran & Accessories, he continues to keep his finger on the pulse, providing elegant design, inventive product development and branding expertise for the apparel, home and entertainment divisions of Loblaw Companies Limited. Joe also currently contributes to the Pink Tartan line of clothing, a luxury sportswear collection designed by his wife Kimberley Newport-Mimran and serves as chair of the Fashion Design Council of Canada.
