Australian International designer, Collette Dinnigan was backstage at her show celebrating the success of her 18th year at Paris Fashion Week where she presented her Spring Summer 2014 collection called “Both Sides Now”.

For this International show Collette Dinnigan’s creative work reflected with her combination of fabrics especially with the use of Woolmarks Cool Wool in a very unexpected way, showing six garments made from the material. The designer was intent on showing that Wool is not only for Winter season.

Collette Dinnigan says "There is so much possibility working with Cool Wool, with an endless scope of what can be done with this natural fibre".

The collection was all about emotional contrast; the contrast of colours, shapes, attitude, mood. Wool pieces in surprising colours – the colour contrast of Vibrant Pink Flamingos in deep sea water. Soft yet strong. Gentle but with confidence. Scarlett bra straps peeped through soft flowing draped wool dresses. Bright floral appliqué flowers danced on light wool dresses. It is modern elegance but with a touch of youthfulness.

Collette Dinnigan presents the audience with a flashback to where it all started. Lingerie inspired dresses and lingerie cheekily peeping through soft draped styles.

The Collette Dinnigan runway show saw the march of Australian International models who walked the biggest shows this season including Holly Rose, Madison Brown, and Claire Collins come down the runway.

International guests who attended the show and who are all loyal supporters of Collette Dinnigan included Pom Klementieff, Poppy Delevigne, Martha Ward, Blogger Hedvig Opshaug, Charlotte Stockdale, and International photographer and artist Ellen Von Unwerth.

Collette Dinnigan brought together an incredibly strong creative International team including Stylist Beth Fenton who works with Marc Jacobs, Harpers UK, Elle UK, ID Magazine, French Vogue etc. TRESemme brought on Internationally acclaimed hair director James Pecis who works with celebrated Fashion Photographer Mario Testino on all of his shoots – he hair directed the Chloe show which was 2 days before Collette’s show in Paris and who regularly works with French Vogue, British Vogue, Vogue China, Vogue Russia to name but a few.

████████████ EVENT

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia

Russian Fashion Week had been held in Moscow for the last ten years in early April and mid-October. During this period, RFW has discovered dozens of new designers and has presented over sixty international designers to the Russian market. From the very first day, RFW was aimed at supporting and promoting Russian fashion and has increased interest in Russian designers both at home and abroad. Partnerships and joint projects between RFW and fashion weeks in Milan, London, Beijing, Athens, Lisbon and other cities have turned Moscow into a major European fashion center. In addition, Russian Fashion Week has become a central event for all former Soviet republics – the best designers from the Ukraine, Belarus and other countries showcase their collections at Russian Fashion Week in Moscow. The collaboration between RFW and Mercedes-Benz will make it possible to bring the young Russian fashion industry to an even higher level and wider audience.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia will occupy a special position in the international fashion calendar, not only due to the presence of Mercedes-Benz, but also, primarily, due to the fact that the German auto manufacturer supports the most influential fashion events in the world. Fashion is the key communication platform for Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz cars are exhibited at fashion weeks in Milan, Paris and London, where the German brand is a strategic partner. Changing its name to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia, Russian Fashion Week elevates itself to sit alongside Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin.

Russia is a fast-growing market for our cars, and Moscow – the next hot fashion destination. Our participation in fashion week is vivid proof of these two axioms, – CEO of Mercedes-Benz Russian Juergen Sauer says. – The signing of this agreement is a logical development of Mercedes-Benz’s global strategy to support the most important fashion weeks in the world. I’m confident that we can strengthen the potential of Russian Fashion Week, as we did, for example, in New York and Berlin.

The participation of Mercedes-Benz in RFW will give, in addition to the obvious benefits, an even more acute sense of fashion and style, – Alexander Shumsky, CEO of Artefact Communications Agency, General Producer of Russian Fashion Week, says. – For the national “fashion consciousness” and development is it important to be on the same catwalk with the legends and trendy designers, such as participants of the previous RFW – Vivienne Westwood, Jeremy Scott, JC de Castelbajac. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia will affirm Moscow’s position on the world fashion map.

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia is to be held in the CEH "Manezh" from October 18 until 22, 2012. The participants of the week will present Spring-Summer/ 2013 collections. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia will be opened by the show of Slava Zaitsev Fashion House, among the other participants of the week are Tatiana Parfionova, Julia Nikolaeva, Yegor Zaitsev, Mari Axel, Bessarion, Oleg Biryukov, Poustovit, Viva Vox, Elena Tsokalenko and many others.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia will be held in the same format as in its previous seasons and will remain Moscow’s biggest “by invitation only” event. The agreement between RFW and Mercedes-Benz was negotiated by IMG Fashion, which commercially represents the event.

Youngest of 9 children Dean and Dan grew up in suburb in Toronto. Fascinated by fashion even as kids, they got their start designing outfits for their sisters.
Canadian twin brothers from Willowdale Ontario, Dean and Dan Caten have operated in the international fashion business since 1984. They moved to New York City in 1983 to attend the Parson’s School of Design and in 1991 came to Italy where in 1994, after many collaborations with the most important fashion houses, they had their first men’s collection show, marking the first in a long succession of runway extravaganzas that were to capture the attention of journalists and buyers for their perfect combination of fashion, music and theater.
The intelligent mix of irreverent Canadian wit and refined Italian tailoring, together with attention to detail are the foundation of today’s Dsquared2 philosophy, which has given life to a unique concept of alternative luxury.
Recently, Dsquared2 collections have conquered a wider audience and, owing to their natural stylistic maturity, have become more chic and sophisticated while maintaining those sexy and provocative traits so embedded in their creative roots. This evolution is also due to the continuous international inspiration received by Dean and Dan, who, while dividing their life and work between Milan and London, create their collections in Italy: “Born in Canada, living in London, made in Italy”.

Milano Moda Donna / Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week is owned by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (The National Chamber for Italian Fashion), a non-profit association which disciplines, co-ordinates and promotes the development of Italian Fashion and is responsible for hosting the fashion events and shows of Milan. The Camera Sindacale della Moda Italiana, was set up on 11 June 1958. This was the forerunner of the body which subsequently became the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. Proprietors of the most important haute couture establishments in Italy, including some private establishments, which, in those days, played a crucial role in the promotion of this sector, were present at the Memorandum of Association: Maria Antonelli, Roberto Cappucci, Princess Caracciolo Ginnetti, Alberto Fagiani, Giovanni Cesare Guidi, Germana Marucelli, Emilio Federico Schuberth, Simonetta Colonna Di Cesarò, Jole Veneziani, Francesco Borrello, Giovanni Battista Giorgini and the lawyer Pietro Parisio.
The events dedicated to women’s fashion are the most important (Womenswear / Milan SS Women Ready to Wear, and Milano Moda Donna being the major fashion shows). The summer events dedicated to men include Menswear and Milano Moda Uomo.

Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana

The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (The National Chamber for Italian Fashion) is the non profit making Association which disciplines, co-ordinates and promotes the development of Italian Fashion.

The Association represents all the highest cultural values of Italian Fashion. It aims to protect, co-ordinate and strengthen its image, both in Italy and abroad.

In accordance with the statutory provisions, the Association is the point of reference, as well as the preferential mouthpiece, for all the national and international initiatives aimed at valuing and promoting Italian style, customs and Fashion.

Right from the year of its foundation, in 1958, the Association has pursued a policy of organisational support aimed at the knowledge, promotion and development of Fashion through events with a highly intellectual image in Italy and abroad.

Recent agreements over international calendars, which have led to the signing of the Italian-French agreement, have given Milan and the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana the role of undisputed protagonist on the international fashion scene, thus also contributing to the consolidation of alliances with London and New York.

The Franco-Italian Protocol signed in Paris on 26th June 2000 is founded on the strong will by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and Fédération Française du prêt-à-porter Féminin to implement a common policy aimed at developing and circulating luxury products in non-European areas.

On January 17th 2005, this agreement has been reconfirmed in Milan with the signature of a new protocol, in presence of the French Minister of foreign trade, On. François Loos and of the Vice-Minister, On.Adolfo Urso, countersigned by the President of Lombardy Region, On.Roberto Formigoni, with the integration of new initiatives particularly relevant, in order to manage the new scenery of the international trade, characterized by the increasing competition that will get worse and worse at the end of the Multifibre Worldwide Agreement.

████████████ DESIGNER

Elie Saab was born in Beirut, Lebanon, on July 4th 1964. He was only six years old, when he first showed signs of his future flair, designing clothes while other children played. His parents thought he might become a tailor.
In 1981 he went to Paris, intending to study fashion, but was impatient to get started on making clothes. So he returned to Beirut and set up his own workshop in 1982.
His atelier started right from the beginning to make evening gowns and wedding dresses. His clothes were a mixture of Oriental and Western styles.
During the 1980’s, his collections attracted many clients, including Princesses and his reputation built up.
His signature style of making garments using rich fabrics, lace, detailed embroidery, pearls, crystals and silk threads, put Saab in a league of his own.
By 1986 orders were pouring in and jet setters and high rollers were after his creations. During the 1990’s, he took a bigger atelier and started fulfilling orders from Paris and Switzerland.
In 1997 Saab was the first non-Italian designer to become a member of the Italian Camera Nazionale della Moda, and so in 1997, Elie showed his first collection outside Lebanon, which was in Rome.
In 1998, he started ready-to-wear in Milan. In the same year, he held his fashion show in Monaco, attended by Princess Stephanie.
His evening gowns are very renowned for their elegance. He always shows at least ten wedding gowns with every collection. Nowadays, he dresses many Hollywood film stars and attractive American women.
He became particularly well-known in early 2002, when Halle Berry wore his red gown to receive her Oscar Award. She was the first black woman recipient of an Oscar, and Saab was the first Lebanese designer to dress an Oscar winner.
In May 2003, the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture invited him to become a member, and he showed his first haute couture collection in Paris in July 2003. His first ready-to-wear collection in Paris was the Spring-Summer 2006 collection, and Paris is now his permanent ready-to-wear runway.
Saab has his headquarters in Beirut, with offices in New York and Paris. His ready-to-wear line is made in Italy. He has 60 retail outlets all over the world, 18 of them in the United States.
He is now preparing to move into his own new multi-story building in the Beirut Central District, which should be completed soon.

Saab’s collections are glamorous and sophisticated, fusing a cultural myriad of fashion influences to give a distinctive and modern edge to his designs. He experiments with the central themes of femininity and romanticism, creating clothing that is cut-to-the-curve, with soft edges and exquisite detail including hand embroidery, beading and the use of luxurious fabrics such as mousseline and silk.

Roland Mouret at Paris Fashion Week

████████████ DESIGNER

For over a decade, Roland Mouret has created the most coveted of women’s wear collections. The designer has defined the era of the iconic dress which have become known by a single name – Galaxy, Titanium, Moon – and have earned Mouret a reputation as magician, master of structure and silhouette and as a man with an intuitive understanding of the female form.

Mouret was born in Lourdes, France. His mother worked in a hotel as a waitress and his father was a butcher. He first learned about fabric while working in his father’s shop, watching the folding of the butcher’s apron and learning to fold it to reveal a clean aspect, seeing the pattern of the blood on the white linen. He learned to cut from watching the way the skin of an animal is sectioned and divided with the knife. A confidence, a directness and boldness, informed his aesthetic and his approach defined by these early memories.

Years later, at his father’s funeral, he reconnected with his home town. “We didn’t drive to the funeral. We walked because it was a beautiful day and I saw all the little streets that contain all my childhood dreams and experiences.” That year he dedicated a collection to his father’s memory and paid tribute to his inspiration in the cut and fold of the clothes he presented. It is these experiences that have directly influenced the physicality of the way Mouret designs. He instinctively drapes fabric on the body rather than drawing sketches. Mouret needs to be close to the shape of the body, interacting with fabric and form with his hands. The essence of his success, he insists, is the physicality of knowing how a person wants to undress. “Dresses are for undressing. We all dress up to undress”. This aesthetic has also informed his menswear collection – Roland Mouret, Mr. – the designer’s initials reversed. “Having spent the last decade dressing women, it has been incredibly inspiring to be able to work with men. To think and reflect on what men really want. How men dress. How I dress.”

Mouret’s work is informed by the diverse experiences of his own life, “I consider my years in Paris, modelling, styling, being part of the social scene all a key part of my make-up. As are the years I have spent in London, opening a café gallery, video directing, and ultimately building my first store under my own name.

My fashion history is well documented. Building success and then losing my name, starting over, building a new unique partnership, getting back my name – it is all part of an inspiring and evolving journey. Today is where we are. You have to learn so much and go so far to understand that the support of the team around you is indispensable and that happiness and simplicity is everything.

Then you take this on to the next stage, which in my case is keeping that fine balance between the personal connection and creating a brand. Both are intrinsically linked for me. That is the paradox.”
