Run to the Sun is a cool store in Anchorage, Alaska that offers swim and resort wear as well as tanning. Every year as part of the Alaska’s Womens Show, Run to the Sun has a fashion show offering the latest fashion styles for us sun/beach deprived locals. The show is great to watch. Photographing it a bit tricky since the lighting at the Sullivan Arena is tough (for me) to shoot.

I’ve met a lot of great models through the show and hope to continue this – the women and men that Michelle uses are very classy and fun to shoot with.

FYI – the shows were in April in the past but due to scheduling conflicts the Womens Show moved to September so in 2010 we had two fashion shows. You won’t hear me complaining!

Antipodium is a London-based, contemporary women’s fashion brand with a sophisticated aesthetic
built from a confident simplicity and capricious nature that is unapologetically addictive – much like the
label’s wearers.

Worn by a fashion and art crew comprising editors and stylists, artists, DJs, photographers and the
odd Texan heiress; Antipodium enjoys a loyal following who embrace it as their unofficial uniform. Their
individuality helps inspire Creative Director, Geoffrey J. Finch’s designs and the label has struck a
chord with style obsessives with a sense of cool (and of course, humour) the world over. It’s little
wonder that high profile fans of the brand include Alexa Chung, Carey Mulligan, Beth Ditto, Susie
Bubble, Edie Campbell, Pixie Geldof, Poppy Delevigne and Lauren Laverne.

Founded by Ashe Peacock, Antipodium was originally established as a boutique and PR and
wholesale agency representing top Antipodean brands. Joined later by Finch, they spotted a gap in the
market for design-led basics and a one-off capsule collection was created to sit alongside other talent
in the store. These wardrobe staples quickly became wardrobe must-haves and with encouragement
from Liberty and British Vogue the pair decided it was time to get serious. Their debut collection was
launched at London Fashion Week in September 2006.

Tom Ford was born in Austin, Texas, but spent most of his childhood in Santa Fe, New Mexico. During his teens, Ford moved to New York and enrolled at New York University, initially attending courses in art history. He later redirected his studies to concentrate on architecture at Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris, concluding his training at Parsons in New York.

In 1990, Tom Ford moved to Milan to join Gucci as the company’s Womenswear Designer. In 1992, he became Design Director and in 1994 he was appointed Creative Director of Gucci. He was responsible for the design of all product lines, from clothing to perfumes, and for the Group’s corporate image, advertising campaigns and store design.

In January 2000, following the acquisition of Yves Saint Laurent and YSL Beaute by the Gucci Group, Tom Ford assumed the position of Creative Director of Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche and YSL Beaute in addition to his then existing duties at Gucci. Ford worked with all creative teams at YSL to define the overall image and positioning of the YSL brand including all product categories and communication activities. Ford also served as Creative Director of Gucci Group. In July 2002 he was made Vice Chairman of the Management Board of Gucci Group. In April 2004, Ford resigned from his post at Gucci Group following a buyout by Pinault Printemps Redoute.

During Ford’s 10 years as Creative Director at Gucci and Gucci Group, sales increased from 230 million dollars in 1994 to almost 3 billion dollars in 2003, making Gucci one of the largest and most profitable luxury brands in the world.

In April 2005, Ford announced the creation of the TOM FORD brand. Ford was joined in this venture by former Gucci Group President and Chief Executive Officer Domenico De Sole, who serves as Chairman of the company. In that same year, Ford announced his partnership with Marcolin Group to produce and distribute optical frames and sunglasses, as well as an alliance with Esteé Lauder to create the TOM FORD BEAUTY brand. There are currently 15 private blend and 7 signature fragrances in the TOM FORD beauty collection, as well as a complete cosmetics collection, which launched in Fall 2011. Both the eyewear and beauty collections have been hugely successful and rank in the top 3 brands at specialty stores worldwide.

In April 2007, his first directly owned flagship store opened in New York at 845 Madison Avenue and coincided with the debut of the TOM FORD menswear and accessory collection. In September 2010, during an intimate presentation at his Madison Avenue flagship, Ford presented his much anticipated womenswear collection on some of his style icons including Lauren Hutton and Beyonce Knowles. Presently, there are 64 freestanding TOM FORD stores and shop-in-shops in locations such as Milan, Tokyo, Las Vegas, Dubai, Zurich, New Delhi, Shanghai and Russia.

In March 2005, Ford announced the opening of his film production company, FADE TO BLACK, through which he directed, produced and co-wrote his first feature film entitled ‘A Single Man’. Adapted from the Christopher Isherwood novel of the same name, the film stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode and Nicholas Hoult. ‘A Single Man’ premiered at the 66th annual Venice Film Festival and was released in December 2009. The film received multiple awards and nominations including an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for Colin Firth, Independent Spirit Award nominations for Best First Feature and Best First Screenplay for Tom Ford, Golden Globe nominations for Colin Firth and Julianne Moore for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, Best Actor awards for Colin Firth at the Venice Film Festival and the BAFTA’s, and Outstanding Film (Wide Release) for Tom Ford at the GLAAD Media Awards.

Tom Ford’s success has been recognized by a number of awards including: five awards from the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) (1995), (2001), (2002), (2004), (2008); four VH-1/ Vogue Fashion Awards (1995), (1996), (1999), (2002); People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People (1997); the Fashion Editor’s Club of Japan (FEC) (2000), two ACE awards from the US Accessory Council (2001) and (2006) in recognition of his new sunglass line; the Style Icon Award at the 1999 Elle Style Awards (UK); the British GQ International Man of the Year Award (2000); the Superstar Award at the Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars (USA, 2000); Best Fashion Designer, TIME Magazine (2001); GQ Designer of the year (USA, 2001); the Fashion Design Achievement Award at the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum’s National Design Award (2003). In March 2004, Tom Ford was honored for his contributions to the worlds of fashion and film with the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style award. That same year, he was inducted into the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame. In 2005, he received the Andre Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award from the Savannah College of Art and Design. In March 2007, GLAAD honored Tom Ford with the Vito Russo Award. In 2009, he was honored as one of GQ USA’s Men of the Year and was selected as GQ Germany’s Man of the Year. In 2010, Tom Ford was nominated for a CFDA for Menswear Designer of the Year. In 2011 Tom Ford was named the STATUS Magazine International Man of the Year in Greece and Elle UK’s International Designer of the Year, as well as GQ Russia’s Man of the Decade.

Ford currently lives in Los Angeles, London and Santa Fe.

Nicky Zimmermann is one of Australia’s most influential fashion figures.

Nicky’s design vision has been eagerly consumed in Australia and internationally for over 20 years.

Nicky was literally born into fashion and has loved designing clothes for as long as she can remember. As a girl she was always making and transforming things to wear; from cutting and ripping into new clothes her mother had just bought her, to creating her own patterns and sewing complete out"ts from fabric she found around her Southern Sydney home.

Zimmermann began literally and creatively in Sydney, with Nicky focusing on dresses and selling them at Paddington markets. Through the week Nicky would design and create garments from her parent’s garage in preparation for the weekend market. #e markets were an opportunity for Nicky to refine her aesthetic and to see first-hand how women responded to fashion. The markets were also hard work and provided Nicky with a solid grounding in the business basics required to survive in a notoriously cut-throat industry. “While working the markets, I had two pages of editorial in Australian Vogue. That was a significant moment because I suddenly started to receive orders from boutiques around
Australia and I could feel some real momentum. Soon after I opened a small store in Darlinghurst.”

Every year, Nicky and her design team create Spring/Summer & Autumn/Winter ready to wear collections along with Cruise and Resort Swim collections. Add to that – lines of swim Separates, Kids and Accessories. the demands of an international business require Nicky to travel extensively throughout the year between the label’s showrooms in Sydney,
London and New York.

Born and raised in South Korea, Son Jung Wan, majored in Industrial Craft at Sookmyung Women’s University and, after graduating, attended design school at International Mode in Seoul. In 1989, Son opened a small shop across the street from Galleria Department Store to house and sell her collection of stylish wears. Seeing how successful her store was, Galleria offered her a shop in shop only a year later and from there the Son Jung Wan brand grew. In 1993 Son earned the “Golden Needle Award” from the Korea Fashion Editor Association and in 2005, was named “Designer of the Year” by Seoul Metropolitan.

The luxurious collections designed by Son Jung Wan consist of impeccably executed separates and dresses made from the must sumptuous fabrics. With each collection, Son captures the dual nature of women and how they like to dress; at times pretty and feminine, and at other times chic, stylish and sexy.

Today, Son Jung Wan is one of Korea’s most successful designers with over US 50 million dollars in sales for 2011. Her designs are sold at boutiques located across the USA including New York City, Palm Beach and the DC Metro area as well as over 50 department stores in South Korea. Each season Son Jung Wan debuts her collection at New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and later at Who’s Next, the Parisian trade show.

If she weren’t a fashion designer, Son would have been an artist. In May 2005 she collaborated with contemporary artist Hwang for the “Tangible Sound” at TOTAL Museum of Contemporary Art. In August 2011, Son collaborated with Kira Kim, a well known Korean installation artist, for an antiques themed art installation at the Plateau Gallery in Seoul.

Son Jung Wan is a woman of many passions. She is a philanthropist, an avid traveler, a collector of art, a mother and a wife to name just a few.
